It's been a while since we heard the first snippet of this tune on Soundcloud. Finally it sees a release, and where else than on No Bass No Fun. The EP consists of 2 dark stomping bangers for the peak time rave: God Complex and Muninn.
In Norse mythology, Huginn (from Old Norse "thought") and Muninn (Old Norse "memory" or "mind") are a pair of ravens that fly all over the world, Midgard, and bring information to the god Odin.
The first track God Complex which gives the EP its name doesn't muck around but delivers immediate The synthetic kick drum with a nice low end and the staggering snare are like a slap in your face and punch to your midriff - in a good way! The hoarse and husky voice before the drop is a well-staged antipode to the female choir that raises your hackles and bewitches you after the drop.
The main part is filled with sharp metallic clanging and stabbing. Ruff Reese bass sweeps drag you along while staccato drums tamp your inner mind until the female choir lift the burden off your shoulders. Only to be forced to your knees again ...
The second track Muninn is in a way similar to God Complex but got its own characteristic elements: tribal metallic percussion and the pervasive crow of the raven Muninn. The track builds up tension with sparse delayed hats and stabs that create a tense atmosphere that erupts in the drop when the SPL-esque halfbeat kicks in. The kick is accentuated with quite harsh hi-hats and complimented with a massive gated staccato bassline that breaks through once in a while.
The two tracks of this EP are very consistent and remind me very much of some early 2007-08 Hotflush and Black Acre records but with a contemporary touch. Well done, Nomurai, these tracks will smash the raves!
